In honor of National Children’s Dental Health Month, we wanted to highlight a few good reads for your kids to help them learn the importance of good dental care and going for regular dental visits. We were lucky enough to not only find a few good books but we found a local author who is passionate about pediatric dental care as well!
Meet The Author: LaTonya Butler
LaTonya, a South Carolina native, has proudly contributed to the dental profession in the SC Upstate since 2008. As a Certified Dental Assistant and Registered Dental Hygienist, LaTonya worked with pediatrics for nearly 13 years in the SC Upstate. She passionately and implements and promotes essential daily oral hygiene care, the importance of routine dental checkups and enjoys providing exceptional dental care to patients. If you are lucky, you may be able to meet the Pediatric Tooth Fairy, which LaTonya often dresses up as to brighten children’s day.
After discovering the need for dental educational books with brown children on the cover as well as informative storyline, LaTonya challenged herself to publish her own books. She is a best-selling author and has two adorable children’s books sharing relatable stories that serve as children’s dental hygiene resources for early readers, parents, and caregivers. “Fuzzy Tooth Critters” and “Mila’s Big Day, First Dental Visit” promote dental awareness and include tips for overcoming fears children often have of the dentist. She is hard at work creating new, inspiring children’s stories as she works to make the world a brighter and happier place.
LaTonya is a loving wife and mother of two who values quality family time. She is an honoree for the 2021 Black History on the Block nomination presented by 96.3 The Block.
She enjoys volunteering her time and donating to the community. She cherishes the moments served at early childhood education facilities and elementary schools for story time.
